I think that the Meredith Brooks' song, "Bitch," summarizes me rather nicely. Or, if you prefer, X. dell says I'm a life-smart literary scholar with a low BS tolerance...that also works!

Mmmm Chocolate Cake

So, my birthday is on Tuesday, but obviously I'm home and Alex is in Columbia during the week. The kids are with us this weekend, but next weekend they'll likely be with their dad. Alex decided, therefore, that he'd make me a cake THIS weekend so that we could all enjoy it.

Needless to say, my ex never made me a birthday cake. Honestly, he had something against all birthdays and holidays of any sort. That's why I get to have the kids EVERY holiday and birthday occasion: he doesn't give a rip and even hates those times of year. Don't ask.

Alex scoffed at me when I told him he could just do a box mix for the base of the cake since the icing alone can make or break the taste of a cake. I was worried about money, time, and other factors. Nope, he was horrified that I suggested doing something via a mix. Haha! Well, it's a rare day I do something NOT from scratch too, so I understand that.

It's an almost flourless cake with a very, very rich dark chocolate icing on it. Ariana decided it tasted and felt more like a brownie than a cake because the layers were as thick as one and the cake was more dense. Man, it's almost gone! I feel so damn spoiled :)

I'm telling you, the man who gives nightly massages, can bake a magnificent chocolate cake from scratch, opens doors, treats my children like his own, and knows the value of flowers is not restricted to special occasions or "I'm sorry" wins EVERY TIME! Haha!

Thanks for your support, Kira. Sorry to be such a whiner. I think I need some chocolate to cheer me up! Haha! I'm kidding. Not really. Wait, yes I am.

Chocolate cake from scratch? Opens doors? Good with children? Knows the value of flowers? I'm beginning to think I don't stand much of a chance here at all.

Still, no harm in trying. Tell Alex, my widdle wuv bear, I'm still waiting for him to call me back.

P.S. - :p

HA! I'll see your chocolate/flowers/dooropening, and I'll raise you:

Does all the laundry
Does all the cooking (and brilliantly, too!)
Does most of the shopping
Cleans most of the house most of the time
Scrubs toilets!
Bathes, dresses, takes kids to school and picks them up
STILL manages at least one "romantic date night" a week
Fucks with the tireless energy and adeptness of a porn star
And manages to write at least two novels (over 500k words) in the last six months.

("The winna, and still champeen!")

For every birthday and holiday, we make chocolate heart-shaped cakes. It's become a bit of a family tradition. I now own six different sizes of heart-shaped pans! Yum!

Juanita--yes, I did! And it was fantastic :) You're not a whiner, and chocolate ALWAYS helps.

Amanda--yes, he does know the critical ingredient!

Angie--thanks :) birthdays aren't usually a happy occasion for me because they remind me I'm getting old, but chocolate makes me forget the "bad" part...haha!

April--since the clone isn't finished, you can borrow him. I'll email his address ;)

Laura--ug, not another one who's freaky about the holidays...

Grant--shall I place an order for the Alex clone for you too then? haha!

Terry--hmmm...didn't realize this would end up a testosterone issue. However, I have to point out that every individual woman/man has different chores that aren't chores and different chores that are a nightmare. I am one of those strange people who enjoys doing laundry, and so Alex isn't allowed to touch it. Cooking is also my dominion even though Alex can do a few things quite well (see: chocolate cake) because it's better than yoga as a relaxer for me. Typically, Alex and I do the shopping together, and I find this activity to be a delight with him as he wants to go into every shop with me (grocery, clothes, cooking stores, candles, bookstores, gamestores, whatever) and never, ever loses his patience. He's rewarded later. Additionally, I hate doing the vacuuming, ironing, mopping, cleaning up the kitchen completely after every meal, scrubbing of tubs, and toilets. He does all this...in his apartment AND mine whenever he is over here. He's got the "fucks tirelessly" thing down pat. That's why I went for a younger man (Right, SC?). Better yet, it's tireless, innovative, and fun...the perfect recipe for keeping monogamy from becoming monotony. As far as childcare goes, he's the best father for the kids that can be imagined, and techinically, well, their father is somebody else. The defining moment in fatherhood for him to me: when he stayed home with the sick kids because their father was too drunk/hung over to tend to them while I went off and taught. They were both vomiting. When I came home, they were reading on the sofa. The kitchen was clean. The kids and the toilets they barfed in were clean. The floor was vacuumed and mopped. He sat down and made GINGERBREAD HOUSES with the kids during the day. They had eaten, gotten meds, and played Candyland as well...all while I was gone for about 8 hours total. To top it all off, EVERY night is romance night with Alex...and I kid you not. Every night I get massages with oils and other events such as rosepetals on the bed, candles, intimate kissing, and whatever else that leads us to do. He will eat the long, romantic three hour meals with me with intelligent discourse that I so adore and have problems finding men who like them with regularity.

But you want to know the biggest selling point for Alex? He doesn't annoy me. Ever. It's amazing. Every woman is different, and I'm sure Laurin is thrilled you're just the way you are. However, there's a particular "fit" I needed, and Alex has just it. THE WINNA, AND STILL THE CHAMPEEN! ;)

EM--I have two sets: baking pans and little mini heart shapped cakes. That's a lovely tradition! I bet Alex'll end up doing that for my cake every year now that you've mentioned it...haha!

This was my first cake so I would like to admit I don't think it was great. Next time I will do better Dearest ;)
I was contemplating having a creamy filling next time and serving it with Strawberries perhaps too. I am limited by what Ari will eat of course.

My speciality is crepes though. I have been doing those for years and I know people love them.

EM, I think I will follow your tradition. It sounds good.

Terry, I don't think I need to raise you back since Kira has done it for me ;)

Alex, the cake was great...ARIANA, the world's pickiest eater, begged me to be allowed to have a slice for breakfast yesterday, plus she asked for more when we got back on Sunday night. Also, remember how much of it she ate over the weekend? Oh, and Ari likes strawberries, so I think that'd work. The dark chocolate with the strawberries would be very nice, actually.
